Lot’s of issues are on people’s minds and the country is in a state of despair, a broken economy, the crumbling NHS, Roads sinking in, unemployment rising…..
A strong country in a wounded and broken state.
with Most of the Parties out there battling for Control they all promise some solutions…
In this article, we will look at the key promises and forfeitures of the 5 Big players in the 2024 UK General Election, Tories, Labour, Reform, Liberal Democrats and Green (this article is for England parties, Ignoring the two other players like SnP and plaid cymru who target Scotland and Wales Respectively).
This Election isn’t evenly distributed among the parties with Independents eating up constituencies and the two Big giants battling for every vote along with the other underdogs ramming in to the giant parties share of voters.
The BBC Predicted results show a lot about what the outcome of this election could possibly be like, Although the election started with postal votes a while back, A great percentage are going to Vote Tomorrow.
As the trend line shows, Labour is in the lead with a substantial lead against the tories. Although, since a great portion of voters have not yet voted, it is quite hard to say the true outcome although there are great hints of a labour government, It’s as closest it’s ever been for labour.
The Conservatives (Tories)
The Tories have been the dominating party in this century, Starting their Reign in the General Election of 2010, The Tories have been in power for just about 14 years now, They have faced multiple hardships, many close results, but now, this is by far the closest they have gotten to the edge, The Predictions and the attitude of the people on the doors give way to the idea that they might be finally pushed off…….
With new scandals floating up from beneath, thing’s are not looking too good for them, For example, Recently, the day the General election was called, Several Ministers and Tory High ups were accused of ‘Insider Trading’ after they placed ‘successful’ bets for ‘the day the general election will be set’ (in the gambling market), hours before the PM Announced the election date. This most definitely won’t be a bonus to their PR.
Many of their schemes that they’ve introduced recently have been criticised, such as their Rwanda Scheme for dealing with illegal immigrants, it is a scheme where they would be send and relocated in Rwanda rather than the UK, Many other parties believe that this won’t be effective at all at deterring migrants.
The Tory manifesto has a few promises and a few unpopular polices, The National Mandatory service for all school leavers at 18 is proving to be quite unpopular among young people,
They do promise some relief for working class families with promises to cut taxes and attempts to re-build the NHS,
Although, speaking from a critical eye, the tories had 14 years to help this country, but as of now, the country isn’t in a state to be the 5th richest country world wide. Are the tories in a state to lead this country through some of it’s toughest times?
“Forward, Together Strong and Stable” — Tories
Reform UK
A new party with it’s newly appointed leader, the infamous Nigel Farage, who was a key supporter of the Brexit campaign while he was in his old party UKIP,
His main moto for the Brexit campaign with UKIP was Immigration and as he joined Reform UK, He took that with him,
Strict limits on immigration are the only way to relieve the pressure on our housing, public services, increase wages and protect our culture, identity and values. Essential skills, mainly around healthcare, must be the only exception. ~ Reform Manifesto
Immigration has undoubtedly put a strain on several edges of the UK Economy, from the job market, to our health care and many other corners of the country and Reform’s main stance is on it, Many people support reform because of this.
Their Stance on the Environment is one main holdback to reform,
Another setback for reform is that Many hold Nigel Farage (the leader of Reform) accountable (partially) for Brexit, Brexit has undoubtedly impacted several businesses who made use of the free trade between nations agreement and many other Trade Boosting policies, those whose businesses experienced severe turbulence or even had to close down, won’t cheer much for Nigel.
Although workers would support Nigel as his stance on Immigration would help keep wages at a desirable rate buy reducing the Supply of labour unless another loophole were to open, which happened in 2020 (Britain left the EU to stop immigration from eastern baltic states, but now we face excess immigration from Asia).
Reforms stance on Russia has been a target for many of Reform’s opposition, it’s leader Nigel Farage said the West “provoked” Russia’s invasion of Ukraine by expanding the European Union and Nato military alliance eastwards. This was also topped with comments by Reform candidates who ‘speak for’ the Russian Regime, More can be read about this Here. This whole attitude towards Russia has earned Reform the unofficial nickname of “Putinista” by the infamous Boris Johnson.
“Britain Needs Reform” — Reform
Green Party
The Green party, Standing as always for the Environment, as their name suggests. Their manifesto is Filled with environmental sustainability and helping the environment in almost every way possible, from transport to homes, to energy and more.
The Greens also intend to Remove all foreign Nuclear weapons from British soil, and it would also dismantle Trident (British nuclear programme) although they would not want to leave the NATO Pact, The Green part also intend to re-join EU in the long term to restore the free movement of people, specifically students.
The Green party would stop supporting the Israeli Regime with Military aid in Gaza and would support an international investigation into war crime allegations against Israel, They would also push for a ceasefire and a releasing of the hostages along with a negotiation on peace between the two states.
One big appeal from the Green Party to Students is the promise to “Scrap university tuition fees”, this is not a Cheap promise although it is for good reasons, sources say that this decision will accumulate 40 billion into the UK’s National Debt by 2050.
“A Green Party for a Confident and Caring Britain The Green Guarantee” — Green
Liberal Democrats
Similar to the ambitions of the green party, the Liberal Democrats will aim to Rejoin the Single Market to mend the ‘broken relationship’ with Europe and they will eventually seek to rejoin the EU in the long term.
A unique change the Liberals will bring is Giving 16-year-olds the vote and bringing in proportional representation, they believe that this will help to engage younger people into society better and many of whom “might even vote for them”.
The Liberal democrats will Recognise non-binary identities and ban conversion therapy, they will also simplify the process of ‘Legally’ identifying as a non-binary, Currently the procedure includes the verification by two specific medical reports, The Liberal democrats will abolish this ‘verification’ and greatly simplify the process. The Tories and the Labour party have also pledged to simplify this process too.
The Liberals stance on Climate change is Reaching net zero by 2045 along with incentivising people to install rooftop solar panels for sustainable clean energy.
Like the other parties, they promise to boost public spending, Similarly to labour they will Scrap the Rwanda scheme, but Unlike Labour (or most definitely reform :),) they intend to “treats everyone with respect” and welcome immigrants with a positive attitude, they refer to the UK’s “proud history of welcoming newcomers”, Within their manifesto, there is no sign of reducing any immigration numbers, this does appeal to the significant proportion of the population who believe that migrants benefit the UK, whereas it won’t go down well with those that do not agree with such policies.
There is no mention of reducing immigration numbers, in what is an appeal to the significant proportion of the population who believe migrants benefit the country.
The liberal democrats also promise other pledges such as Speeding up the courts process, Tripling the early years pupil premium and Scrapping two-child limit and reform Carer’s Allowance.
“Change Britain’s Future” — Liberal Democrats
The Labour Party
Last and most definitely Not least, The labour Party is in the winning seat for this election,
They have strong sustainable plans to rebuild our crumbling public services, to rebuild the dull Economy, to rebuild the Flattened NHS and to rebuild the country from it’s current crumbled state.
Labour will stimulate ‘Wealth creation’ for working class people with the aim of improving standards of living for the working class people along with removing inflation.
Labour also has new schemes to combat the housing crisis by Building 300,000 new homes a year, they plan to build approximately 1.5 million new houses within the next 5 years, Labour believes that housing developers are being held back by strict planning rules and bloated price of land, the party plans to reform the economics and bureaucracy of house building, this could see an increase in private provision, This large scale of housing has not been seen since the 1960s, The last time England saw this many homes completed was in 1969, when new council housing contributed 45% of the total. (Sources from BBC)
Labour’s stance on Climate change is quite strong, they aim for a A 2030 ban on petrol and diesel car sales to combat excess carbon emissions in the atmosphere along with their biggest spending commitment of £24bn for green initiatives.
As a big critique of the Tories infamous Rwanda scheme, they suggest a new Border and Security Command for the UK would be more effective, by diverting £75m from the current Rwanda setup to a new Border and Security Command. This appears realistic as there is already more investment set aside for the Rwanda scheme (APROX ~540m over 5 years) than what Labour says it’s new command will take to set up.
Labour is going for An ‘absolute’ commitment to nuclear and Nato, It plans to commit to a full review of the armed forces and assessment of the threats that the UK faces abroad before committing to the 2.5% GDP Defence spending budget that NATO advocates for.
It plans to stimulate 40,000 more NHS appointments and operations weekly to cut the never ending waiting list, along with ‘Home-first’ care to turn around ‘crisis-ridden care system in England’.
The Labour party also promise to Plan to reduce backlog of rape cases (clear up the court backlog on sexual violence) and Tackling ticket touts (stopping ticket resellers from hyper-inflating the price of ticket’s by introducing strict new policies)
“Country first, Party second” ~ Labour UK
Conclusion
Every party has solutions to problems and can’t fix everything, there is no perfect party, but all you can do is go for the option that you believe will save this country.
Regardless of who comes to power, this country is in a broken state, it will be a long tough road for them to rebuild it and rise it up to the great nation it once was.
The Labour party is undoubtedly going for an overall win, but the fight’s will be tough for everyone constituency wide, at the end, Every vote matters equally, every vote is important, In this election, there is no whitewash, it is a close fight, it could come down to a single Vote, Your vote could be the deciding vote.
The End
I started writing this article around the same time (22:28) around yesterday (Wednesday), and this is by far the fastest time I’ve thrown out an article :), The thought of writing an article on this election struck around mid Wednesday,
From my personal opinion, this country has seen failure of the tories for quite a while now and if we give another tory vote, we will see 5 more years of this tory failure
this country cannot and will not survive anymore poor leadership for let alone 5 more years, that is why I will stand with the labour party and support my local MP Mike Reader, for the labour party are the only party close to winning this election and bringing the change this country needs.
